miyako lights a cigarette, the ember glowing faintly as she lets the smoke curl around her like the shadows in the alleyways of slateport. she adjusts the focus on her camera, her eyes narrowing as she frames the ranger and his lycanroc in her viewfinder. the tension in the scene is palpable, the kind that made her pulse quicken, even if she never showed it.[break][break]

she clicks the shutter, capturing the moment where the ranger’s face is half-lit by the streetlights, his expression caught between concern and resolve. the lycanroc’s nose hovers close to the ground, alert but hesitant, like it was trying to decide whether this was a friend or foe. pulling back from the viewfinder, miyako searches the newly-captured photo for any impurities. upon finding none, she smiles. it's a good picture.[break][break]

“nice,” miyako murmurs to herself, exhaling smoke. she snaps another photo as the ranger approaches the shadow by the stall, her camera catching the subtle shift in his posture and the wariness of his partner. it seems, though, that they've found her. miyako isn't too fond of becoming dog food, so she slowly straightens from her crouched position and escapes the shadows of the stall to be fully illuminated by slateport's street lights. she meets silverio's eyes and smiles. she waves.[break][break]

"hey, man," miyako greets him. "just takin' pictures. wanna see?"

the source of lycanroc's detection draws near, its shadow inching closer to their feet. the wolf pokémon's nose wincing from a smell it finds strangely unorthodox to it. a surprising scent of another animal? could it be that something was hiding amongst the darkness of slateport's alleys? did the possible suspect not wish to have their identity revealed? with each second passing, silverio's suspicious grow wider. an array of potential scenarios played in his mind like a slideshow, picture-by-picture, in black-and-white.

finally, the mysterious entity chooses to unveil themselves, stepping away from the shadows and taking a stance in the light that casts them. a faint hint of nicotine wafts in the air between silv and a woman standing before him now, the man unbothered by scent. the lycanroc, however, is left seated, poking at his own nose. wide-eyed from the surprise appearance of another humanly figure, his attention is briefly drawn to the camera in her hands, then links eyes with her once more.

"this seems like a terribly strange spot to try and snap a photo. of what, i dunno. but for a minute there, my buddy here and i were thinking that you might've been some kinda thug looking to try to mug someone." or maybe she is, and maybe's she armed. there was no such thing as being too careful, after all. the wolf approaches her with a curious nose, taking a whiff, beginning at her feet then proceeding upwards, stopping at her hands. deeming her to be harmless (for now), he sits, emerald orbs peering and tail wagging with a newfound interest.

"alright, let's see what you're working with here, why not." the man decides as he steps up with curious eyes of his own taking note of...a ball of white on the ground? grasping it with a free hand, he examines it with a gentle squeeze. "cotton...?" he stands to wonder where it came from, but then quickly recieves an answer in the form of a sheep's cry. and as if out of nowhere, a creature other than his canine companion appears, offering a bump at the ranger's legs with a body full of snow-white fluff.

great...just what he needed, more unwanted attention being drawn to him...

miyako can't help but laugh aloud at the stranger's caution. "i'm a photographer," miyako snorts. "sitting in weird places and taking pictures of random shit is kind of in the job description."[break][break]

miyako begins to incline her camera towards the man to allow him a chance to see the shot she had snapped, but pauses as the ranger picks up the ball of cotton. miyako hears the soft cry of the sheep pokémon and looks down to see the mareep nudging at silverio’s legs. the whole situation is almost absurd, but somehow it feels right for a quiet night in slateport. she raises her camera, snapping a few more candid shots of the mareep and lycanroc, their contrasting forms making for an interesting composition.[break][break]

but her attention is quickly diverted by a metallic glint in the corner of her eye. miyako smirks as she spots a ferroseed, half-buried in the shadows of the stall. it’s nestled between a pile of crates, its spikes glinting dangerously in the dim light. the mareep must have drawn it out of hiding with its electrical energy, and now it’s rolling slowly toward them, its spikes ready to launch at any perceived threat.[break][break]

"oh boy," miyako murmurs as she unclips a pokeball from her belt. "sneaking up on me, huh?"

"yeah, i get that part, but...ah never mind..."

the purposeful use of a camera was to go and capture moments in time, and to cherish said moments throughout time, was it not? that bit is understandable enough? but to do so here? in the dead of night? in part of this city that's proven to be more active at night? a bold move, indeed. what a bizarre scenario in which the ranger finds himself in now: tracking the scent of what he initially suspected to be some form of criminal, and now discovering that he'd be unknowingly contributing to a person's oddly-placed photoshoot.

it's funny how the world works, isn't it...?

the wolf diverts his attention away from the sheep as he spots something else in the midst - a glaring sheen from a stall a few steps over. soft sounds of gears grinding filled the air. soon enough, a klingklang is found its gear teething at the back of the stall. lycanroc looks to bat it away with a paw, as if it were some raggedy toy that has long since outlived its usefulness. the mareep, meanwhile, seeks to make itself strangely comfortable beside the paldean's feet, as if his body reeked of super lure or something to that effect.

the woman appears to be occupied as well; some spiky fellow rolling along. silverio, disinterested in the creature, calls to the apparent photographer. "if you happened to have caught me in there..." the camera, that is. "uhh...i'd hope you got my good side..."

as miyako adjusts her grip on the pokeball, she flicks a quick glance at silverio. "oh, definitely," miyako confirms with a sly grin. "your good side is definitely on the right. your left is kind of… eh." she shrugs, the motion sending smoke trailing from her cigarette.[break][break]

as she speaks, miyako takes a step to the side, opening her line of sight to the ferroseed. it's still rolling slowly towards her, its metallic spikes glinting in the pale wash of slateport streetlights. miyako flicks her cigarette butt aside and focuses on the pokeball in her hand, which she throws with reckless abandon. the arc of her throw rings true and, before long, the ferroseed is caught, carefully nestled up on the inside of miyako's pokeball.[break][break]

a smile breaks her face as she returns the pokeball to her belt, before turning back towards silverio. she raises her camera again and peers through the viewfinder.[break][break]

"your lycanroc is really photogenic though. you ever considered having it be a pokemodel?" miyako murmurs as she snaps another picture of the wolf pokemon, this time framed by even more wild pokemon milling in the background. "it's good money, honestly."

the conversation with the ranger is oddly charming, miyako considers as she snaps a few more pictures of the now stationary magnezone. it's not often she runs into someone so... straightforward. usually it's all underhanded deals and backdoor politics. but silverio seems like the kind of guy who would say what he means and mean what he says. a surprise for slateport.[break][break]

but business is business, even with novel concepts.[break][break]

a slow smirk spreads across miyako's face as silverio ponders the idea. "yep," she confirms. "those big eyes just pop. could see it now - him decked out in cute little costumes, playing dress-up. maybe a lycanroc in mareep clothing shoot..."[break][break]

ah, but with one last click of the shutter, the digital card has no more space for anymore photos. sighing, she places the cap on the lens and plods off to the side, where she deposits herself into a nearby park bench. now that she can't take anymore pictures, what's she gonna do now? have an actual, genuine conversation? booooring.[break][break]

on the bench, she lights up another cigarette, idly playing with an empty pokeball in her other hand. "you new to slateport?" she asks finally. "you don't strike me as a city slicker."[break][break]

even as a mawile wanders into miyako's vision, her eyes don't light up, and her muscles hardly tense as she idly throws her pokeball at it. she doesn't seem to much care for the excitement of life.

miyako lets out a puff of smoke as the mawile goes into the empty pokeball. boring. she's seen so many mawiles already. hell, her parentss had one for a while.[break][break]

"me?" miyako laughs, the sound cracking through the quiet night like shattering ice. "eh, maybe. i'm just a freelancer. i take my own pictures, mostly."[break][break]

she tilts her head back, peering at the sky. "i could pass the message along though. the market for exotic models is always there. they may even make me the photographer anyways. i've done it before."[break][break]

she taps the ash off her cigarette before returning it to her lips for another long drag. "though you'd have to ask around about the kind of... contract you'd be signing. a lot of companies play fast and loose with the rules. i'd hate for anything to happen to your big fluffy friend here."[break][break]

she raises her camera in front of her again, but doesn't snap any pictures this time. instead, she looks through it like a peephole, zooming the focus in and out, pretending to look at the world in a different light. like silverio is her next big photo. which he isn't. she has no idea who he is, really. but that doesn't mean she can't pretend. doesn't mean she can't make up a story and past about him for the fun of it. she does it often to the people or things she takes pictures of. they always seem to be much more interesting than she is. all she really does is drink, smoke, and ruin shit. this guy probably has a lot more going for him. she can't help but imagine.[break][break]

so miyako keeps zooming in and out, panning across the scene, taking it all in like she's watching a movie unfold before her eyes, before finally lowering the camera. she flicks her cigarette into the darkness, where it disappears like a meteor streaking through the night sky. "what's your story, man?" she asks finally, the question floating into the silence like a bubble, popping almost as soon as it's spoken. "you look like the kinda guy that's got some big tragedy tucked away back there. or, hmm, naive and bright-eyed, maybe? like the hero at the beginning of some big action flick."[break][break]

she's not even looking at him, instead fiddling with the controls of her camera, even despite the personal nature of her random question.
